Undoubtedly, a man of art has to be extravagant. Yet no one would measure the extravagancy, a good fashion designer needs to possess in order to make a success. One thing we know for sure – Pierre Cardin is on the top of extravagant designers of our age. What else can be said about a person, that buys a castle of Marquise de Sad and creates space-looking dresses, without thinking of female shapes?
Pierre Cardin was born in Italy, but is considered to be a French designer, for in 1945, at the age of 23, he moved to Paris to work there. Soon Pierre Cardin with his beloved geometric motives and patterns and avant-garde styles becomes one of the top designers at Christian Dior’s, but in 1053 he leaves Dior and founds his own fashion house.
Pierre Cardin used to be the first in many things. For instance, he was the first to introduce his unisex, experimental haut-couture designs. He was the first European fashion designer to enter Japanese market – and to succeed in it. He love to make his shows extraordinary – different forms of presentation, models performing and dancing were used. His shows usually took place in Espace Cardin in Paris, where he had to move the shows after Cardin left the Chambre Syndicale.
Finally, Cardin was one of the first designers to design a car – this was done in collaboration with American Motors and the car interior was a success – as usual, in Cardin’s case.
