Italian fashion is strongly associated with high quality and perfect taste, and Gianni Versace S.p.A. is commonly called a fine example of Italian fashion – clothes, footwear, luxury items and watches, perfumes and even hotels. So, there’s no surprise, that Gianni Versace S.p.A. is today one of the leaders of its sphere.
The company was founded in 1978 in Milan by Gianni Versace and his siblings, who (soon after Gianni’s assassination in 1997) became – correspondingly – the creative director (Donatella Versace, the sister) and the CEO (Santo Versace, the brother). Under their reighn the company has shaped in what it is today.
The peculiar fact is, that all Versace designers work in teams, coordinated by Donatella herself. Each team is responsible for one of the five main lines of the company. Gianni Versace Couture is the line, that produces not only haut couture clothes, as is clear from the name, but also perfumes, jewelry, watches, etc. Versace Jeans Couture is a more affordable line, that produces casual clothes. Other lines are called Versace Home Collection, Versus and Versace Collection. Apart from this, Gianni Versace S.p.A. also produces furniture and owns a hotel named Palazzo Versace.
Gianni Versace S.p.A. is particularly popular due to the wise use of celebrities in its ads. It was one of the first fashion companies in Italy to invite stars into advertising. Elton John and Beyonce, Axl Rose and eve Lady Di – they all are (ore used to be) the admirers of Versace clothes. Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are among those, who took part in the advertising campaigns. And the results are worth their work – the annual turnover of the company today is € 310.6 million, and the number of boutiques all over the world has reached the number of 81!
